Can I use a fretless bass for the course?
I strongly recommend you don’t try to do Beginner to Badass with a fretless bass. It’s way harder to learn on – the frets are like really helpful guardrails to make sure everything you play is an actual note that will fit with the music.
Fretless sounds really cool, but creates chaos. Even if your fretless bass has lines to help you find the notes, it doesn’t guarantee you’ll be perfectly in tune.
If you want to play fretless someday, you’ll do better with a background on fretted. Your ear will have some preliminary training for tuning, and your fingers will be ready to go.
The bottom line is: there are so many other things to practice without having to worry about being in tune. So, learn with frets!
